Decorating Dessert
- Square-shaped cakes are still popular. Balance out the clean lines of an angular cake with an ornate, vintage cake topper.
- Ivory butter cream icing is still a classic, and can be modernized with accents of black icing. Another alternative is a platinum icing base.
- Many of today's cakes are being lavishly adorned with lots and lots of flowers.
- The cake's stand or display table should not be forgotten, but also shouldn't take away from the cake. Simple treatments such as flowers and loose petals strewn on the table will enhance the presentation.
- Personalize your dessert display by adding special touches related to your wedding's theme: for a beach theme, try a glass-enclosed display of sea shells; if you're a "green" couple, choose locally-grown flowers or greenery that can be replanted, or actual fruit-bearing plants, such as mini-lemon or orange trees.
- Personalize your desserts by adding monograms or edible gold leaf.
- Prepare a note for your guests, displayed in a gilt frame at the dessert table, that explains the story behind your dessert choice – and your perfect wine pairing.
