Q: What are your thoughts on offering a selection of beverages for guests?

A: A separate wine bar is a really nice feature at any event, but it makes a wedding even more special. Offer all varietals, and then serve one or two with the meal that reflect the bride and groom's personal taste. If your budget allows, hire a sommelier who can offer guests insight into each wine Recently, we created a separate bar just for wine that proved to be a big hit, especially with women.

Cake and Wine

Q: What's your wine and cake pairing preference?

A: At wedding, couples most often serve champagne with wedding cake, but the sweetness of the cake can often underscore champagne's acidity. Riesling pairs wonderfully with all types of cake typically served at weddings, but you could also pair a chocolate cake with one of our velvety reds, like a Merlot or Cabernet. Offering coffee with dessert is a nice touch, especially for those who prefer an alternative to wine or champagne.

Food and Wine Pairing

Q: Have you tasted a special entrée that was paired with just the right wine?

A: One trend we're seeing at events is moving away from "one dish" meals and offering food stations, so that guests experience a variety of foods and wines. At a recent event, we hosted a sushi and Ahi station with Mirassou Pinot Noir. We presented tenderloin with Cabernet Sauvignon. At yet another station, we offered guests a variety of seafood with glasses of chilled Sauvignon Blanc. The great thing is Mirassou has such a diverse portfolio of varietals as to suit all food pairing needs.

If you prefer a traditional dinner, which would include appetizers and then a sit-down meal, try pairing each with a different varietal. Offer guests a glass of chilled Chardonnay and appetizers when they first arrive. When seated for dinner, ensure that each table has a range of wines that pair nicely with whatever sauce is dressing the entrée.
