Choosing Your Glassware
Mirassou Winery invites Reed & Barton to share insights on choosing the perfect choices for glassware and wine glasses… Selection of stemware can be confusing because of the terminology used. Our hope is to de-mystify the subject and leave you with more time to consider the beautiful choices available. We think we can make this "crystal clear"!
- The first term in question is the "glass" itself. When you toast with glass or "ping" glass with your finger you will hear a "clunk" as opposed to the "ring" of crystal. You can do this test yourself and will always be able to tell the difference. Once you hear the ring, you won’t want to settle for anything less than crystal for your wines.
- Cut crystal glasses not as fragile as one might think. Many of us feel totally comfortable taking our crystal wine glasses outdoors. Drinking Mirassou wine from a beautiful crystal glass elevates the experience!
- A typical suite of modern crystal stemware includes 4 sizes—wine, iced beverage, goblet and flute. Many patterns also include the option of a balloon wine which is an oversized glass which allows plenty of room to let red wines breathe.
- We suggest purchasing extra balloon wine glasses to use for either red or white wines. The beautiful and expressive shape is perfect for an evening of casual entertaining with your closest friends and Mirassou wines.
- There has been a recent trend for stem-less wine glasses. This is a way to enjoy the ring of crystal with even less concern for breakage. They are fun, casual, and offer easy care and storage.
- You may also see a trend for "sommelier" type wine glasses, which offer a distinct shape for each varietal. We suggest starting with wine glasses shaped for varietals that are your personal favorites, then building your collection from there!
- The only rule for your crystal glassware is to use it often. It will transform an everyday moment into a celebration!
