Don't delay! The contest ends May 30, 2008. Let us know why you should win!
DressesCocktail and tea-length dresses offer brides a flirty, more playful alternative to traditional floor-length gowns — it's a celebration, after all! Shorter hemlines are suitable for everything from garden nuptials to a city-hall ceremony or a destination wedding in the tropics. Gowns are also being embellished with a colorful sash or a corsage-size floral accent at the waist, which adds femininity and emphasizes a bride's figure.
InvitationsThe invitation delivers wedding day details but also gives guests a sneak peek into the theme and style of the wedding. Couples are taking a very personalized approach to stationery by choosing colors, lettering and even signature motifs that reflect their style. This means nontraditional shapes, handmade details, inspired color combinations and a mix of vintage and modern touches.
Cake and Wine PairingWine is playing an increasingly popular role at weddings, and pairing a different varietal with each course, from appetizers to the cake, offers guests a colorful culinary experience. Have a wine you absolutely love? Consider creating your confection around its unique flavors and aromas. Take your cue from your confection's dominant flavor or spice. For example, a Chardonnay pairs perfectly with vanilla cake that has a buttercream or coconut filling or icing.
Flowers and Eco-Friendly Wedding DecorOrganic elements such as berries, fruit, herbs, veggies and even stones (very Zen!) are being used lately to inject texture into bouquets and centerpieces. As more brides channel their inner environmentalist, we're seeing everything from menus with organic foods to locally grown flowers and plants used as ceremony and reception decor. For a cute and eco-friendly wedding favor, give miniature potted saplings that guests can replant at home.
RingsWhether they're genuine antiques or crafted to look that way, vintage-style rings are suddenly new again. Couples are choosing among rings with filigree designs, period detailing and old-fashioned handwork and settings. Celebs are catching on to the trend too: Katie Holmes received an Edwardian engagement ring from Tom Cruise.
