Merlot Wine

Mirassou® California Merlot

About the Wine:

Our 2010 Mirassou California Merlot is a luscious wine with flavors of rich blackberry and black cherry, layered over vanilla undertones and hints of toasted oak and brown spice. This full-bodied wine has a lush mouthfeel and a lingering, smooth finish.

Viticulture Notes:

For this wine, we selected Merlot grapes from California’s celebrated regions. The cooler temperatures of the North Coast and Central Coast create a longer growing season, giving the grapes more time to develop deep, expressive flavors. The 2010 growing season brought a few challenges to these regions; a wet spring delayed bud break, and a late summer heat wave stressed the vines. But, the warmer temperatures helped the grapes to reach maturity and develop rich flavor characteristics. Although yields were lower than normal, the resulting grapes displayed remarkable quality.

Food and Wine Pairings

Winemaker Notes:

Grapes for our 2010 California Merlot were gently destemmed, resulting in some whole berries. The must was fermented in a combination of cone sweep, rotary and upright fermenters at a maximum temperature of 85˚F for five to seven days before undergoing malolactic fermentation.
